With almost 2 millennia of history, the Alto Douro Wine Region (protected by UNESCO) and its monumental and steep slopes along the Douro River have been sculpted by man, allowing the creation of a singular ecosystem of unique value. The terraced terrain not only preserves soil erosion but also provides for the cultivation of vineyards with varieties that are unique in the world.
